The past few years, local residents have been inspired by the great performance of the Carp. In fact, in 2016 the Carp was the champion of the Central League for the first time in 25 years. The Carp is also famous for “Carp Joshi” or Carp Girls. Many young women love to go watch games, and you can find many of them at HJU! Mazda Zoom-Zoom Stadium Hiroshima is home to the Carp. It is located near Hiroshima Station, and it takes 10 minutes on foot. There are various kinds of seats available. You can get tickets online or at convenience stores. The atmosphere at the stadium is truly energetic and fun. http://www.carp.co.jp/en/ Free Admission for HJU Students HJU students can enter two museums in Hiroshima for free with student ID cards. Both of them are located in the city center, and it takes about 20 minutes by bus from campus. Hiroshima Prefectural Art Museum This museum holds various exhibitions throughout the year. Some of the previous exhibitions included: Ukiyoe (wood block printing from the Edo era), Impressionism, such as Monet and Renoir, Traditional Japanese Crafts and so on. This museum has an Italian restaurant where you can enjoy meals inspired by the art. http://www.hpam.jp/museum/ Shukkeien This is a Japanese garden located right next to the Hiroshima Prefectural Art Museum. Shukkeien literally means “condensed landscape garden”. You can see many kinds of landscapes such as a pond, little mountains, a tea rooms and bridges. You can enjoy cherry blossoms in the spring and red colored maple leaves in autumn. The admission fee is 150 yen for students with student ID cards. http://shukkeien.jp/ Hiroshima Museum of Art This museum also holds various exhibitions throughout the year, but this museum features more modern artists, such as Machiko Hasegawa who is the first female comic artist, and different picture book artists.
