MENU Why GLA People Academics Advising Admission and Aid Student Life Career Support My GLA Virtual Tour Visit Contact GLA Home Academics Policies and Procedures Academic and English Hurdles To be eligible to take ANU courses, students must meet standards for academic ability and English proficiency. Hurdle requirement is assessed only once at the end of the semester when students have undertaken courses and received grades for a total 32 RU credits. Withdrawn grades are not included in this calculation. As indicated, the hurdle assessment is conducted only once. Students who do not meet the standards cannot continue coursework in the dual degree program and are not eligible to earn an ANU Bachelor of Asia-Pacific Affairs degree. Students in this situation will work to graduate by completing their second and subsequent years of study in the Single Degree Track, which consists of all RU courses. The student will obtain a bachelor’s degree from RU in Global Liberal Arts once all degree requirements are completed. Academic Hurdles The Academic Hurdle requires students to earn an adjusted ANU GPA of at least 4.000, which is calculated based on the student's grades for all RU courses taken up to the end of the semester when the Hurdle requirement is assessed (see the table below). Inquire for details at the Academic Advising Center. The minimum TOEFL iBT® / IELTS scores required are as below: TOEFL iBT®: An overall score of 80, with a minimum of 20 in Reading and Writing and 18 in Speaking and Listening. (MyBest scores™ are not accepted.) IELTS (Academic Module): An overall band score of 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each component of the test. Other English language tests accepted by the college include Cambridge CAE Advanced (Post 2015) and PTE Academic. For further information on our English requirements, please contact the GLA office. English as a Second Language In order to continue with their studies in the Dual Degree Program, students who did not meet standards of the English Hurdle at the time of enrollment must first fulfill the requirement before being assessed for the Hurdle. To fulfill the score criteria, the student is provided with the option to take an “the Pre-enrolment Test Preparation” program.
