The awarded subject is "Whispering gallery mode oscillation in wurtzite and zinc-blende GaN microdisks". They observed, compared, and evaluated the whispering gallery mode (WGM) oscillation in wurtzite and zinc-blende gallium nitride (GaN) microdisks, where the crystal system is hexagonal and cubic, respectively. The results are expected to be applied to novel WGM microlasers in the future. "I am very honored to win the Outstanding Poster Award at ICNS-14," said Kawaguchi. "I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Professor Masaru Sakai for his guidance and to everyone in my laboratory who supported me in receiving this award.
