The challenges concerning environmental sustainability and climate change require us to invest urgently in green technologies. Growing income and regional disparities have made it necessary to re-build inclusive production structures. The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of building resilient and dependable supply chains. Governments can learn considerably from other’s experiences in practicing industrial policy. They can also learn from a growing body of academic research on the design and consequences of industrial policy. This conference, co-organized by the IEA, METI and RIETI, will be a venue for distinguished scholars and policy practitioners to share the latest findings on new industrial policies for the 21st century.
