[email protected] Koh-Hei Sonoda, M.D., Ph.D. Professor and Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology,Graduate School of Medical Science at Kyushu University, Fukuoka, Japan. Fukuoka, Japan Professor Sonoda gained his MD in 1991 before completing his PhD in immunology at Kyushu University. He then took up a postdoctoral fellowship at Schepens Eye Research Institute, Boston, USA, before returning to Kyushu University as an Assistant Professor in 2000. He was Professor and Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology, Yamaguchi University Graduate School of Medicine from 2010 to 2015 and took up his current position at Kyushu University in 2015. Professor Sonoda’s major research interests include the regulation of ocular inflammation, the role of innate T cells for the maintenance of ocular immune privilege, uveitis, the regulation of corneal graft rejection after corneal transplantation and the role of inflammation in the pathogenesis of AMD. He is a member of several national and international societies focusing on immunology, ophthalmology and ocular inflammation.
