Additionally, as a bachelor of studies it is important to acquire basic and general-purpose abilities, which are required for majoring in any field, and for advancing in any field in society. These abilities are listed in our diploma policy (degree conferring policy), and from 2012, in order for our students to better understand, we have expressed this specifically as the “10 abilities we want Doshisha Women’s College of Liberal Arts students to acquire by the time they graduate,” abbreviated as DWCLA10. DWCLA10 is a common requirement for any field for a long life or career after graduation, and is the foundation for becoming an independent member of society. As these are important abilities when getting a job, we would like you to learn them properly. They can be acquired as a result of the process of learning the academic system, and the process of engaging earnestly in extracurricular activities. Therefore, at D.W.C.L.A., the abilities we expect that will be learned as a result of taking the course will be displayed in the “Basic and General Ability DWCLA10 Expected to be Acquired” column at the end of the syllabus of each lesson subject. Through this, we want the students to understand that it is important not only to acquire knowledge and skills, but abilities similar to these as well. This is very important in our education, as students will have the chance to hopefully approach our lessons with a higher degree of consciousness. We hope that you will understand the purpose of DWCLA10, and acquire the abilities to open up your future. DWCLA10 Points We want you to fully understand the importance of a broad education and deep expertise, as well as the basic and general-purpose abilities to utilize them. These abilities are the basic necessities for becoming an independent member of society. As such, these abilities are required when going out into society. These abilities can be acquired in the process of seriously tackling each theme and task in class, and by thoroughly pursuing them in various ways.
