Many products ranging from cars, mobile phones, consumer products to medical devices require embedded software to operate, and the performance of such software can influence the competitiveness of products and enterprises. In light of this situation, OECD launched a two-year project "Innovation in the software sector" in March 2007 for governments and industries to jointly discuss and assess the factors that were shaping the developments in the sector. In this conference, interim findings of the project will be presented, and efforts to enhance dependability in the software sector in Japan will be introduced. It will be a high-level event aimed at analyzing innovation in the software sector from business and economic perspectives, taking into account the factors that drive innovation, including key framework conditions.
