Established in 1924, the Faculty of Law and Letters enrolled its first class of 202 students (including Kyushu University’s first two female students) in 1925. The faculty was divided into the four current Faculties - Law, Economics, Letters, and Education - in 1949. To date, the old Faculty of Law and Letters, the four Faculties and the associated Graduate Schools have produced approximately 60,000 graduates. 23,000 graduates are currently members of the four Faculty Alumni Associations, and are playing leading roles in their respective fields. In the run-up to 2024, Kyushu University has launched a 100th anniversary project, with   a series of events planned to commemorate the founding. As part of this project, we are calling for submission for a design of a new monument, which will be displayed in East Zone of Ito Campus as a permanent piece of public art. The monument design should pay tribute to the old fountain at Hakozaki Campus, where students used to meet and relax. We hope the monument will be a symbol that connects past, present and future students. Both current students and members of the four Faculties Alumni Associations will be able to vote for their preferred design as part of the selection process. The final design will be decided on October 20 and announced at the 100th Anniversary Ceremony in November, 2024.
