The College of Information Science and Engineering allows students to explore their own area of interest, develop new concepts and ideas, and make lifelong friends and connections. Students meet and get feedback from industry experts, and are surrounded by a supportive network of professors and staff. How will the knowledge gained in the College of Information Science and Engineering be useful for students after graduation? The College of Information Science and Engineering aims at developing autonomous and self-directed learners. Graduates from CISE see a problem in the world and develop a way to solve the problem. They do not wait to be told what to do and how to do it. CISE graduates are leaders. Please describe your major research, activities, and current research themes. My major research area is Game-Based Learning (GBL) for English language learning. For this, I use massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPG), and have students play them only in English. By playing these games only in English students can learn English communication skills naturally. What are your expectations for new students entering the university? How would you like to see them progress during their time at the university? I expect students to come to university with an open mind. The experience students get inside and outside the classroom at the College of Information Science and Engineering is very different from what they have experienced at high school. Students will need to be willing to give their opinions and express themselves.
